The Campaign for International Co-operation and Disarmament works toward a society free from the scourges of war and conflict. Taking a holistic approach, the C.I.C.D. seeks to stem the current trends of militarisation and re-direct these energies toward a social good.
The C.I.C.D calls for the abolition of all tools and weapons of the military industrial complex, particularly nuclear weapons.
Immediate goals that the C.I.C.D. actively pursues are:
- The implementation of international laws regarding the disarmament and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and 'weapons of mass destruction
- The removal of all foreign military bases from Australian territory
- An end to the mining and export of Uranium, and any further extensions to the nuclear fuel cycle in Australia and around the world, with a view towards the harnessing of renewable sources of energy
- The reallocation of military expenditure towards social, educational and health needs and the conversion of military related industries,employment and funding to socially useful purposes.
The CICD strongly opposes:
- conscription and compulsory military training, having been active during the Vietnam Moratorium
- the militarisation (and necessary ownership) of space
Only through peace can all of humanity experience true wellbeing. In order to survive and succeed, humanity must learn from its history and avoid the scourge of war in order to refrain from destroying ourselves and our environment.
Education and the rapid dissemination of information are vital in creating a peaceful people. The C.I.C.D. supports the establishment of peace research institutes and peace related curricula in schools in order to foster an informed and active public.
The C.I.C.D supports numerous causes that are integral to the advancement of a peaceful culture. The C.I.C.D supports calls for a non-aligned and independent foreign policy, based on the premise that the establishment of friendly relations with all countries is the best guarantor of our security.
Peace is something that should be enjoyed by all and the C.I.C.D supports equality and independence movements and national liberation struggles throughout the world and in Australia, feeling solidarity with the Aboriginal land rights movement.
